Amber showed her take on the Madrona Road Challenge:

Sarah made this variation of a sparkle punch quilt, showcasing Joel Dewberry’s Notting  Hill line and lots of negative space. This quilt was on display at HMQS last week. Kayli did a great job quilting it.

Here’s Amy‘s scrappy strings quilt and the amazing vintage sheet she used for the back.

Marci’s mom saw Sukie’s quilt from The Practical Guide to Patchwork and really wanted one. So Marci whipped this one up for a Mother’s Day gift!

After learning of the tragedy in Boston last month, Andy was inspired to make this quilt about community. Absolutely gorgeous! The improv feel and negative space are really striking.

Leigh showed us her finished pink and orange hourglass quilt…

and this striped quilt with 1″ finished strips.

She also brought in this quilt she made for Joel Dewberry’s booth at Fall Quilt Market and showed us how she used the fabric motif on the backing for her quilting design.

Richard showed us two of his quilts, one of which is a fun take a puzzle piece block using Riley Blake’s Pieces of Hope fabric line, supporting autism awareness.

For the demo portion of our meeting, Emily of Crazy Old Ladies talked us through her design process for fabric and pattern design.

Then it was Kati‘s turn to give us some tips on how she designs her quilts.

Tanya put together a great Powerpoint presentation for us that talked about how to overcome problems in the design process and her solutions for those problems…like using all those extra pieces of fabric that would normally be thrown away. This quilt is a great example of utilizing your fabric.

We had a great meeting in April. Thanks to everyone who came and showed us your work as well as to those who taught us about their design processes.

Since the meeting is at the library, we’re not allowed to bring in food. Just a reminder that dues must be paid to attend the meeting. The Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild is coordinating an effort to show support for Boston.

If you would like to make a flag or a few, we will collect them at our meeting on May 6th to send to them.

Our May meeting will be held Monday, May 6. This event is only open to paid members (members in good standing) – a great reason to pay your yearly dues at our April meeting! The time and place of our meeting will be disclosed to paid members prior to the event.

On March 2 we had our most recent Sewing Saturday and it like all those in the past was a success.  We had a Demo on Machine piecing from Kati she taught us the basics of machine piecing Hexi’s.

We had a lot of laughs and fun.  If you missed out on this one make sure you keep your calendar free on Saturday May 4th for our next Sewing Saturday.

Barbie showed us her dresden wave mini quilt featuring Art Gallery’s Pure Elements. The pattern can be found in the current issue of Fat Quarterly.

Richard also made this whirligig quilt out of Architectures…

with a fun, offset block on the back.

And to round things off, Jenny showed us the pillow she made using the Somerset Star technique Colleen taught at one of our guild meetings a few months ago.
